Can I put another fish in the tank with my betta fish?

Jules Asked: Can I put another fish in the tank with my betta fish?

It is a male betta.I realize they are aggressive toward other male bettas and two should not be paired, but will it try to kill *another* kind of fish? What about an African Dwarf frog?

You have to have the fish in the tank before the beta. If not the beta will get territorial and shred it.

DO NOT put male or, female Betta's together in a tank, they will fight, and one with die. I've had my betta in a tank alone, and i've had it for 2 years!

The dwarf frog could live with a betta in a 5 gallon tank. But it all depends on personality. A friend had the two together and the frog attached itself to the betta's tail and would not let go. It had to be cut off and they had to be seperated.

No, betta fish are very territorial about their tanks. They will fight to the death any other fish or frog you put in there. I stuck my pinkie finger in my tank that has a betta and it snapped at my pinkie which is the size of the fish!

I have a 29 gallon tank with a male betta and several other fish including a huge angel and i've had no problems with my tank but your best bet would be to go to your local fish or pet store and consult with them.

Mesasabi Answered:
If you have a decent sized tank you can mix some fish with your Betta and have no problems. African Dwarf frogs stick to the bottom and bettas generally in the middle so they dont tend to bother them. Every fish is different though. Watch them if anyone fights separate them.

I keep a couple of Platys with my betta. He flares up at them if they get too close, but they're much faster swimmers than the betta, so they escape easily.

NOOO!! betta are very aggressive fish. they fight for their space until one of them dies!

swimgirl Answered:
Yes, as long as there is enough room for both fish to have adequate territories. An African Dwarf frog would probably see your betta as dinner btw…

Matt Answered:
Bettas are compatible with a few species of fish.

As for the african dwarf frog, yes you can add them together with your betta.

Good luck!
